I wonder if walkthroughs hurt the gaming industry?
I never played The Last Of Us 1 & 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and others, I watched the walkthroughs.
I had a discussion about this with a friend yesterday.
Personally, I don't think it does. Gamers want to game. Some of us don't have the patience to complete a huge open-world game, but just want to see the game being completed.
I walkthorughs weren't a thing, I still wouldn't play these games.
- It seems to me that walkthroughs are nothing new, anyway. Prior to the internet, they existed in printed magazine form for popular games.Continuity
- The short answer is, nah, I don't think they hurt the industry at all. As you say, gamers want to game.Continuity
- I remember playing ICO on the PS2. Was possibly the first game I played all the way through. I still watched the walk through though, to see how others did itIanbolton
- I followed the walkthrough for Fez though. That was solid. Got to 96% complete and lost my saved game, so never played games again!Ianbolton
- think it can depend on the studio size. Doesn't effect Giant studio's but a small indie developer that may sell 1200 copies and have 2500 walk though views...Nutter
