    first, check your motherboard manual to see if your USB ports are 2.0 (chances are if you didn't buy your comp in the last year, they're not 2.0).

    if it says they're not, you can still use the 2.0 burner, but you're only going to get 1.1 speeds.

    solution 1: buy a 2.0 PCI card and make sure it says USB 2.0 or HI-SPEED USB.

    also keep in mind that because your burner says it's 2.0 doesn't mean it's using the full 480MBps. there is a slower USB 2.0 speed called Full Speed (my Canon scanner is USB 2.0 Full Speed, but i can't remember the MBps transfer - still crazy faster than 1.1).

    solution 2: ditch the external and get a cheaper, faster IDE/ATAPI internal burner. takes 5 minutes to put it in yourself and so much faster than an external USB.
