Musk publishes poll asking whether he should reinstate Trump
Just before 5 p.m. Friday, Musk decided to poll Twitter users on an issue of national security. "Reinstate former President Trump," he wrote, without a question mark but with an option each for yes or no.
As of 5:15 p.m., the poll had amassed more than 1 million votes, with 61.6% of respondents saying Donald Trump should be let back on Twitter and 38.4% saying he should not be. Trump's account was permanently suspended in the aftermath of Jan. 6, 2021, "due to the risk of further incitement of violence," Twitter wrote in a blog at the time.
Musk did not indicate when he planned to make the decision, only tweeting six minutes after he shared the original poll: "Vox Populi, Vox Dei." The phrase translates from Latin to mean, "The voice of the people is the voice of God."
