40 years ago today I saw Genesis play at the Milton Keynes Bowl. Early 80's Genesis were a different beast to the band I had liked when Peter Gabriel was the singer but he had left in 1975. Due to Gabriels financial woes with his WOMAD festival he was persuaded to reform with his bandmates for this one-off reunion.

Former member Steve Hackett who had also left in the 70's joined them for what proved to be a magical night, indeed the whole day was great as support included Talk Talk and John Martyn. Sadly no film of the event has surfaced although there are bootleg recordings, and quite stupidly the ushers ripped my ticket in half as I went through the gate but I have fond memories of the day apart from one shameful admission... I was pretty stoned that day, hey it was a Genesis show ffs,

I do remember that when Talk Talk came on stage I started heckling them quite a bit, including bizarrely shouting for no apparent reason "suck yer own dick"!! to the lead singer but, it just came out all wrong and actually sounded like "suck yer OWN dick" and the folk standing in front of me all turned round and laughed at me (I just moved to another part of the arena in shame) but I did enjoy the main event and even became more of a fan of Talk Talk as I grew up, it was quite a day and now 40 years ago, jeez.
