Aluminium takes 40x more energy to produce than Copper.

    • Recycling Al takes only 5% the original energy expenditure, whilst we're facing a copper shortage which recycling can't help, so...Nairn
    • ...we're probably going to be seeing a lot more aluminium usage in things like electrical wires and such, where it performs better anyway. *shrug*Nairn
    • Also, we can use an Al production cycle to transport energy as 'batteries', using dams or geothermal to 'charge' recycled ingots which get reprocessed locally.Nairn

    • These days I'm less concerned about energy expenditure than I am nasty chemicals and microplastics. Lead's the Big One on my mind since I had a kid..Nairn
    • We had the best part of 80 years adding 1/1000th of all the mass of petroleum burnt globally being fucking lead. Shit doesn't degrade. It will NEVER go away.Nairn
    • It's literally terrifying to me.Nairn
    • Lead in our ecosystem = we slowly poison ourselves into a more aggressive race until we eliminate ourselves with nukes in WW4.shapesalad
