After some years of reflecting on gender, I don’t really have preferred pronouns. I identify as cisgender, I’m a basic white male. Lots of gay friends, some bi and one trans friend. I’m not really bi but I wouldn’t be offended or put off by a man hitting on me. I’m not not bi, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, if someone asks my preferred pronoun, I always say he/him but it’s not actually my preference. I have no preference. I could not care less. Call me by whatever. But my point is this: if someone asked me (at work) to share my preferred pronouns, it is “PC” of me to just say “he/him”. It’s not really true, but if I say “I have no preference” I honestly wonder how that would be received.
Food for thought.
- Oops, first sentence should have said “reflecting on identity”********
- Saying that would cause unnecessary awkwardness. If you truly don’t care just say he him because that’s the default.monospaced
- That’s what I do. But it’s not true about me********
- having no preference is a pronoun. they/themhotroddy
- It is? Is that what they them is supposed to be used fOr?********
- Shit, that makes sense. Gonna ask my closest they/them friend next time we have beers********
- You don’t think he him is you, even though you identify as a male?monospaced
- That’s not what I said. I said I don’t have preferred pronouns. One thing isn’t the other********
- I was kidding. You're binary. They're not.hotroddy
- This is basically a long winded way of nb telling us he's bicurious. Lolcherub
- Huh? All I’m saying is I don’t have preference to any particular pronoun********
- Then if you don’t care, stick with what you are. A him. Doesn’t seem like an issuemonospaced
- sorry but you need to go in a category. thats how our monkey brains work.inteliboy
- nb. i get you.pango
- each to their own but if gender is a choice then i choose not to participate and my "preference" defaults to what my biological sex is.trooperbill
