As Finland considers NATO membership, citizens mobilize for an invasion by Russia

HELSINKI — When the Finnish Reservists’ Assn. recently announced wartime defense courses for civilian women in the southern town of Haemeenlinna, the 400 slots filled almost immediately, with a waiting list of 500 more.
Topics will include shooting, cybersecurity and how to manage the first several days of an invasion from abroad.

    • Oh great.PhanLo
    • Putin is doing a great job of justifying building a military presence all around his borders.formed
    • He's also doing a great job of dismantling his non-nuclear forces, and Russia's ability to develop and sustain more in future.
      It's quite incredible.

    • Russia's doing so well with the first invasion, let's see how they handle multiple invasions on multiple frontsMondoMorphic
    • I live in Helsinki. Citizens mobilising is inaccurate. Sure the course filled quickly, but thats a handful of peeps.seldon
    • Swedish govt. has been pumping out civil defense malarkey, reminding everyone that, in event of WAR!, folk will be conscripted to sing songs or whatever.face_melter
    • Stockholm also has an air raid siren blast every month, to test the system in case the Finns roll over and let The Russians barrel in.face_melter
    • We also got letters through the door telling us where our nearest air raid shelters are. YAY!face_melter
