    That's hefty.

Up to 40,000 (out of 190K) Russian Troops Killed, Wounded, Taken Prisoner or Missing in Ukraine, WSJ: https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage…

1 month into this war Russia lost more than in 10 years in Afghanistan.

    • I'm taking all these Russian casualty figures with a grain of salt. There's no denying they're taking losses, but I don't they're as heavy as either Ukraine orContinuity
    • it'll keep going like this. Russians have no will to fight Ukraine. Unless NATO gets sucked in, then ALL of Russia mobilizes and it could be a different story._niko
    • ... (occasionally) the UK are making them out to be. Naturally, there's a vested tactical interest in exaggerating them upwards.Continuity
    • So comparing to a fight against NATO forces, total annihilation in like under a weeek?

    • A graffiti writer my mates would sometimes paint with in Moscow got killed early on. He was in the army. Crazy losses for a modern war.PhanLo
    • @Cont: Even the official Russki news outlet briefly reported 10K dead. Who knows the exact figure but so far 10K-15K dead for sure.NBQ00
    • Then another 25K-30K wounded, deserted/ missing (out of action).NBQ00
    • but NATO is wisely keeping to the sidelines and supporting Ukraine logistically and with weapons. They know Russia wants them to enter the war, but are refusing_niko
    • ...to take the bait_niko
    • Ukrainians also have home court advantage and that counts by a lot, but yeah, Russian army is basically junk rated, just as the country...
      ********
    • right now it's 150,000 Russians vs what? 10 million Actively fighting Ukrainians? 5 Million? 1 million? numbers are in their favour_niko
    • Military people said that to take Ukraine, Russia would need 900K troops on the ground. They went with 200K expecting a 3 day fight & got a 3 week fight. Bye?
      ********
    • 3 week fight? It's alweady a month in.NBQ00
    • figure of speech for comparison duh

    • "NATO estimates that between 7,000 and 15,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since the invasion began on Feb. 24. Using statistical averages from pastyuekit
    • conflicts that for every casualty roughly three soldiers are wounded, NATO analysts reach their total figure."yuekit
