Name: Jim
Job Title: Sr. Web Designer and partner
Location: Detroit, MI
Salary/Income: 190k/year and some company benefitsK what’s blowing my mind is that this isn’t totally unrealistic anymore. Time is wild.
- find me a senior web designer in Detroit making 190k/year_niko
- Many people work remotely these days. You may have heard something about it on the news********
- remote salaries are location-based, nobody is paying you $190K if you work from Alaska********
- Jim doesn’t live in Alaska********
- I know Sr Designers who aren’t partners making pretty close to this in Pittsburgh and Austin********
- And I don’t know that many peoples salaries********
- Jim is a motherfucking partner. He earns every penny that baller. Y’all just jelly.monospaced
- And we have designers in remote locations like Alaska that make plenty close to this. Of course it’s possible.monospaced
- I know creative directors in big agencies in Toronto that don’t make that kind of money, what sr designer is pulling that in Pittsburg and Austin?_niko
- Genuinely curious because that sounds ridiculously high for that position._niko
- I’m not lying. I’m including bonus & equity which for the two people I know they ARE getting this. Both of them work remote.********
- I know one Senior designer who works on a tiny app and makes $150k plus some stock but I don’t know the value of the stock********
- Amazon, Microsoft, google, meta, Spotify, square are starting to pay salaries like this. Netflix even higher but they don’t allow remote.********
- @_niko yes, Canada sucks for pay. Even in Toronto.********
- Ok yeah makes sense especially in bigger companies but that’s got to be at the far end of the bell curve_niko
- Yes to be fair it is at the high end, absolutely. But these are Sr Designers, they’re not well known or have awards or anything.********
- A friend from Google in NYC (non-designer) moved to Toronto mid-pandemic. They cut his pay 30%!!! Savage.********
- Did a quick search on LinkedIn for Sr Designer. Adobe has a UI role listed at 101k-155k. Adobe is pretty good but not the highest of salaries out there.********
- GO GET THAT BREAD BOYZ********
- I run a small studio with my partner and we kill ourselves wearing different 10 hats plus hustling clients working 24 hours/day to make fuck all it seems._niko
- Maybe Jim’s got the right idea after all lol_niko
- Running a design studio is so fucking hard. I hear ya********
