Meaningful. He perhaps was given the suggestion to ask for help. Approved it. Someone broadcasts it.

    • starlink can operate in europe?
      ********
    • it does...in some countries north of italy. depending on liscences needed from govs. started late 2021.uan
    • Given they're orbital, so going around the entire planet, all that's needed is a local groundstation and then however many dishes for further afield.Nairn
    • basestation for main uplink, dishes for downlink, etc.Nairn
    • Shit. I just checked. I forget how far south the US is! Starlink might not be great here - Kyiv is at the upmost latitude of Starlink orbit...Nairn

    • Or, if that graphic is accurate (projection vs. latitude looks a little weird), Starlink might be great. Accessible in Kyiv, not blockable from further north?Nairn
    • Ah. Another problem:

      Nairn
    • the problem is rassa has capabilities to jam those signals and also to take those satelites down.uan
    • Jamming has locality problems, but yes. Taking down US property satellites would be a HUGE escalation. Also, these are fast low orbit ones. Hard to hit.Nairn
    • Well, harder to hit. Also, it's a constellation, so redundancy's built-in. They'd have to hit multiple satellites. Often.Nairn
    • you make explode something bigger and watch the debris cross the sats‘ orbit.uan
    • Still, low orbit, higher speeds, quicker fix. Anything THAT bad would likely fuck over Russian assets too, so Gots To Be A Bit Careful.Nairn
    • @Nairn eh u know these things need gov. approvals, and the backcom infrastructure.
So it isn't just like setting up a dish and go.
      ********
    • yeah, officially. Otherwise it's just a case of available bandwidth.Nairn
