    It's beyond a stupid irony that the supposed trigger for this was the [previously non-existant] possibility of Ukraine joining NATO because they feared a Russia invasion, so Russia's response was to... invade the Ukraine. It would be funny if only it weren't so absolutely not.

    • No, they gave up their nukes because they had no way to sustain them, and NATO and Russia promised not to invade them for doing so.Nairn
