    Syrian war lasted more than 10 years. Roughly one third of a land of Ukraine. The proxy war US held had minimal economic costs for such an operation.
    I think US or west is more than happy to prolong this war, let Russia bear the cost and stay distracted.
    West will provide arms and militia for guerrilla warfare, keep the whole country simply unusable for Russia.
    This seems like the most painful but the only tactic that would tire the invading force.
    Meanwhile Putin is trying to be quick and force Ukraine into a treaty without extending this but so far Ukrainian president doesn't look like he's ready to give up yet.
    I don't know which one would be better for the civilians living there.
    Accept the invasion and live under the Russian rule or keep fighting and maybe get something at the end.
