Anyone here in the States ever buy a car in a different state than you live only to be told you can't take possession of it w/out a valid state driver license FROM the state you purchased the car?!

About a week ago we did all the financing and was approved... the car was all set and in my name ready for us to drive away. Dude at the dealership then tells me I can't take possession of said vehicle without an IN-STATE license.

What?!!... Why??? huhhh? WHY THE FUCK YOU JUST GET ME FINANCING etc etc but I can't drive off the lot w/out an in-state license??

Tried to go to the DMV this morning and the fuckers want my birf certificate which is currently stored in a moving pod at the moving pod company's storage facility and I'm not allowed to rummage through said pod to dig it up...

    ... SOOO FUCKING STRESSSSFULLLL.

My wife can't take possession of the car either as her name wasn't on the fucking financing (and therefor they didn't put it on the title)... so I've had a $30K vehicle setup w/financing — a nice chunk of money as a down payment AND already the first payment has been taken via auto withdrawal...

... but I can't pick up the fucking car.

To request a new birf certificate from the state of Nevada I will need to wait up to at least 4 weeks for delivery (everything must be done via snail mail including me sending a money order to pay for it)... *sigh

    • Sounds like the guy at the dealership needs an ass-kicking.Akagiyama
    • I don't think I've ever heard of this. Nor can I find anything online to support it.duckseason
    • You don't need a driver license to buy any car. I bought a car without a license last year, actually.monospaced
    • It’s a financing contract issue?
      ********
    • Tell them to keep the car and cancel the financing. Then be calling your attorney as they can’t legally make you pay for a car you didn’t get? I have no clue.
      ********
    • Find a lawyer (non-local) that gives first session free. Then pay them to draft a letter and harass the dealership.
      ********
    • It’ll be cheaper and faster than getting a new license

    • This is the most stupid thing I've read in years... wt? Good luck with this Kev!OBBTKN
    • I've basically only bought cars from other states. Never once seen this happen.section_014
    • What does a driver’s license have to do w/ a vehicle purchase? Can you simply have a car broker/mover ‘in that state’ pick it up, deliver it to your doorstep?prophetone
    • WOW what a $%#^ing nightmare... finally took possession of the car today... nearly 2.5 weeks after purchase. Fortunately found a way around the birf cert. by...PonyBoy
    • ...using my in-laws home as 'our' home (as we're waiting for our apartment to be ready and we technically have no home until this weekend).PonyBoy
    • Had to have my Father in-law right a letter stating he was my FUCKING LANDLORD and have the Town Clerk sign and certify it THEN have it notarized.PonyBoy
    • All so the same asshat who denied you can hand over the keys. Ridiculous. I'm glad that's over, man. :)monospaced
