No, I think that's just a signal converter...can't put a miniDV tape in it, as needed...the right solution...a miniDV deck.
HOWEVER...
I had the same dilemma last week, so I stole my parents' miniDV cam and it worked freakin' great.
Look, if you can, just buy a miniDV camera, it's not much more expensive, but far more useful. Or bum one off your friend for a little while. Totally.
