This thread is an echo-chamber for atheist dogma and selective ignorance. The focus of posts is almost always the soft target of catholicism and the monstrous humans within as though it's exploits are a home-run in the argument to demolish religion.

Atheism is responsible for more death and suffering than Judaism or Christianity. Fascism and communism - both of which were atheist ideologies - murdered more than 150 million people in the 20th Century alone.

This does not excuse the actions of terrible humans who are: part of, and protected by most major global religions and ideologies. 85% of the planets population subscribe to 'god' in some sense or other. And arguably god(s) and religion(s) are in-built and a successful evolutionary feature of humans.

I wonder if those calling for the dismantling and banning of religion and spirituality would actually like the world after it's done.

    • “Don’t be mean to us christers because we’re ACTCHOOALLY number 2 in murdering people instead of number 1”scarabin
    • Anything positive anyone has to say about religion is welcome here too. I think I have posted a couple neutral-positive things about religion here...sarahfailin
    • The fascists ran right alongside christianity and were endorsed by the church.
Post some positive Jesus stuff in this thread if it upsets you.

    • After reading that it was found that the catholic church covered up the rape and torture of 1/4 a million kids, you come to have a fucking whingePhanLo
    • Hey, for my part I've for at least two decades vocally worried about the dismantlement of the likes of the CoE or whatever light ChristianityNairn
    • ..I've never come across a convincing non-religious replacement for Just Not Being A Cunt, because there aren't any. Shit noise trumps base humanism.Nairn
    • My conceit is that I've always felt more Christian than most self-declared Christians because whilst I'm not religious, 'Christians' are generally twats.Nairn
    • Atheism isn't a belief system.monospaced
    • Christianity is not a default, by any stretch of the imaginationmonospaced
    • It sounds like you're advocating everyone start believing in some supernatural beings, specifically the Christian God. That itself is absolutely ridiculous.monospaced
    • Furthermore, I don't see anyone calling for the dismantling or banning of religion. At all. Except in government policy, according to the US constitution.monospaced
    • "Evolutionary feature"
Somebody's been doing their own research.
      palimpsest
    • @scarabin I have no religion or god.

@mono, we've been here before i'm not suggesting it's a belief system. It is however an ideology. Also, in the post ...
      Morning_star
    • ..._niko calls for the dismantling of religion.

@nairn Don't be an arsehole is a great place to start.

@PhanLo I'm no defender of any church or any dogma.
      Morning_star
    • @palimpsest, you doubt that claim?Morning_star
    • Religion is not an evolutionary trait. That's not how evolution works according to my research. Live your truth, I'll live mine.palimpsest
    • I didn't say trait and you post is the kind of shit Creationists come out with.Morning_star
    • What post specifically?palimpsest
    • I would argue that it wasn't the atheism that was behind the killing, but instead maniacal dictators/fascists.monospaced
    • Now, those exist regardless of some faith. I don't believe that religion imparts a missing dose of ethics or morality. Those traits ARE natural to humans.monospaced
    • I would also bet that more people have died in the name of religion than atheism, over the course of human history.monospaced
    • @mono. That’s pretty much the point I was getting at (clumsily). Humans are the common factor here. Whether it’s peadofile priests, brutal fundamentalists...Morning_star
    • ...or horrific political groups. Not so sure about your last claim as the religious/political partnership that caused the deaths is difficult to separate.Morning_star
    • Word.monospaced
    • I think if you consider ancient wars and all the thousands of years of global wars in the name of dozens of gods, it would outdo the commies.monospaced
    • Religion, all of them, have caused countless deaths throughout known history. Atheism you speak of was just this last century or so.monospaced
    • @palimsest - This..."That's not how evolution works according to my research. Live your truth, I'll live mine."Morning_star
    • I don't get it but thanks for answering.palimpsest
    • " you post is the kind of shit Creationists come out with."
      - Morning_star
      Glad you changed your mind.
      palimpsest
    • Nope. It's still the 'kind' of shit they would spout.Morning_star
