Chinese President Xi Jinping has indirectly acknowledged he is locked in a power struggle with a rival political faction backed by former Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

Some of the speculation here probably falls under the category "conspiracy theory" but it points to the fact that the CCP is not a monolithic dictatorship, it's more like a mafia where different factions battle for control. And you might arrest the lieutenant but the top guy goes untouched...

    • No surprises there then.shapesalad
    • or the less conspiracy theory way of looking at it: the ccp is the gov. different fractions inside the ccp are like parties in the west.uan
    • the party with most power controls the policy of the nation.uan
    • Yeah I was reading this article which talks about the different factions

    • And it is strangely remniscient of the Democratic and Republican parties in the USA, they represent different constituencies and take turns running the country.yuekit
    • Reason I said like mafia is b/c there are no elections so the power struggle is about behind the scenes maneuvering. Look at how people Xi has taken down.yuekit
