i have some inside knowledge of how BBY works, and i am sorry to tell you that they have recently changed over from exchanging to repairing sony digital cameras.
most other man. allow them to exchange, but Sony is doing repairs for now.
i tried the same thing as you.
however, be aware that they have to exchange after 3 repairs, so if you can break it 4 times, you are in luck.
my advice is to get inside there, and adjust some gears (ever-so-slightly) so that they dont line up anymore.
