Went to a new parent / student orientation this afternoon at the school where my daughter will be starting first grade.

GASP!!! NOBODY BITCHED ABOUT WEARING MASKS!!! Every single parent and child had one on. Nobody even asked a single question about masks. Nobody asked when they'll get to stop wearing masks.

Here's to living in the north Chicago suburbs in a community full of people with empathy and compassion and the desire to do right by their little humans. The whole thing really made me feel rather joyful.

    • It’s nice to hear stories like this one rather than watch the horrible humans I posted in the video 2 posts down.Ramanisky2
    • the only people I heard bitch about masks here in Mexico were boomer Canadians and young AmericansGuyFawkes
    • I really don’t get why people are so crazy anti-mask. It’s not a big dealGnash
    • In my town the opposite is happening. The anti maskers are in full force and are all but physically attacking the school board about it. It’s so wrong.monospaced
    • My area looks like a place where smart, responsible people live. But under the surface it’s kinda vile. I’m legit jealous of your situation.monospaced
    • Ironically, their reasons are exactly the same. They think they are compassionate and doing right by their little children.monospaced
    • Mono, that sucks. We're lucky to be able to live where we live. North Chicago suburbs, pretty consistently middle-upper middle class, educatedmg33
    • and just to the west of what's perhaps the most wealthy area of Illinois. I'd wager that this area is more liberal than conservative - that, or it's just fullmg33
    • of more empathy and common sense and willingness to do right by others in our community.mg33
    • I've not heard of any arguments in stores, any school board fights, nothing. It's quite the utopia around here. Town of 47,000.mg33
    • Lastly, as a neighbor reminded me last year, it's not about our politics, it's that we have far more healthcare literacy around here. I have neighbors who aremg33
    • Republican, they all hated Trump, they've all worn masks, and they've all done right by each other to keep their kids safe so they can all play together.mg33
    • It sounds lame, but we're blessed to have this "village" of 8 families and 17 kids on our street who have all become closer during this pandemic. :)mg33
    • I'm also in an incorporated village. It's almost entirely upper class, educated people, many with prestigious medical careers. And still ...monospaced
    • What state?mg33
    • they're like this. My street alone (4 blocks long) has a dozen families and 20+ kids all under 12. We're close too, it's utopian. Almost.monospaced
    • It doesn't sound lame. It's amazing the sense of community. I'm so happy that you have that AND they're on the right side of this issuemonospaced
    • I’m in Long Island New York. A very affluent village too.monospaced
    • Those with kids under 12, are they out with you at grocery stores and shopping, etc.? We don't take our 1 year old anywhere indoors like that, strictly outdoor.whatthefunk
