With all the talk about origin of the virus it's easy to forget that there are some people who don't actually believe it came from the lab.

I don't think lab accident can be dismissed as a possibility especially when you have someone as knowledgeable as Ralph Baric (from grafician's link above) saying it could have happened.

But reading some of the speculation that is out there and then listening to a discussion like this among virologists, it's like they are taking place in two different universes.

    • One takeaway for me is that a lot of the stuff that has been claimed about lab leak...such as the genetic makeup of the virus proving it is artificial...seemsyuekit
    • to actually be wrong. If it came from lab, more likely scenario is an already existing (but not yet published) virus that they collected in the wild.yuekit
    • yep, i've shut up since 'the lab-leak' has become synonymous with gain-of-function. the latter needs to be provable from the virus samples. the former should bekingsteven
    • just treated as a possibly and shape global regulation on studying viruses in highly populated areas. everyone handling should be at least quarantining forkingsteven
    • a week. i mean if we're expected to do it on the basis of an anon request from track and trace on our phones. relying on lab biosafety levels is madkingsteven
