    I've often wondered how they could do archaeology in Rome, wherei nthey dig down through layers that are built on top of one another. In the modern context, we mostly clear down, then build afresh. In the old days, apparently they just built on top of whatever had decayed or been broken down in situ.

    Anyway, with that in mind, here is a photo I took a couple of years back, of some shop in shitty North London, with signs built in front of signs, in front of signs. This happens all over the place, but here's one I captured.

    This is less 'UK is fucked' more 'London is a bit shit'.

    • Funny thing is - bottommost sign is probably hand-painted, which is increasingly preferred in new retail businesses across N LDNNairn
