Business cards are about the easiest bit of print you can design, shouldn't be that bumpy a ride.
You could give http://www.printing.com a try, £49 for 500 cards, I haven't had anything done by them but they sent me a sample pack and the print quality was decent. CMYK only though so don't use any Pantone inks in your design. Every other printer I've tried has quoted around £200-£250 for a set of cards.
85mm x 55mm is a common size for business cards. Remember to include your fonts and images (300dpi at 100%) when you send the Illy file. Get someone who knows what they're doing to check out your artwork before you send it to the printers or you could end up getting charged for shitty artwork setup.
