Google was telling me I was running out of space in my google drive, largely used by gmail, and I needed to buy more space.

I went through my biggest emails and deleted them but it hardly made a dent, so I searched "label:unimportant is:unread" clicked the little "select all" box at the top of the list, and then the "select all conversations matching this search" prompt, and deleted.

gmail seemed to only be able to process batches of about 15,000 emails at a time to delete and then remove them permanently from the trash, so I had to do it a few times.

I cleared out 7 gigs of email garbage, and deleted no important emails.

    • wow... i need to try thatdkoblesky
    • i did not have very many matching that....but good to know! thanksdkoblesky
    • "I went through my biggest emails" sounds so funny to me for some reasonnb
    • How do you know label:unimportant is actually unimportant? Gmail hardly marks any of my emails as importantnb
    • My gmail unread counter = 0. I keep on top, delete each day, no problemo with space. Also it's easier to see when I've got a new email.shapesalad
    • that's why i also filtered 'unread' 'cause if i read them, they were probably important to me. if not, probably not. I also used "
      -receipts"
