Is it true that Red vs Blue, Maga vs Antifa, Left vs Right, Pro-Trump vs Anti-Trump is conveniently distracting US citizens from concentrating their protests against a governmental system that is currupt, unfair and broken?

And, even though there is a change of Chief Clown the issues and problems both sides identify will still be present?

Maybe it would be a good idea to talk to those on the other side rather than ridicule them. I'd wager that you have more in common than you'd expect.

    • Makes sense to me. But it´s
      utopia.

    • haha no I don't think this kind of generic "both sides bad" is an accurate assessment of the current situation. Have you turned on the news recently?yuekit
    • The GOP are blatant about their cruelty and don't give a shit who knows. Dems and libs hide behind neoliberalism to excuse their particular fuckery.face_melter
    • The neolib project of the past 50+ years has utterly failed *everyone*.face_melter
    • @yeukit i think it's more like 'both sides busy fighting and missing the real problem'Morning_star
    • This sums it up well. https://m.youtube.co…Chimp
    • well put morning_starrenderedred
    • I've tried just talking to the other side. They can't go 2 seconds without spewing a conspiracy. It's nearly impossible to respond without ridicule.monospaced
    • If we time travel back to the mid 90s or something maybe I'd agree. But I don't think this does justice to the unhinged era we just lived through.yuekit
    • @mono @Yuekit at some point you'll be eyeballs deep in the mire that was the US, still blaming the other side. Rest easy in the knowledge that you gave the...Morning_star
    • ...best insult as you search the ruins of a country you have helped to destroy.Morning_star
    • I'll rest easy that I am on the right side of history, sure. But the idea I helped destroy a country? Grow up.monospaced
    • Morning_star of course no one wants to fight or live in a divided country. But circumstances are not always the same, there are genuinely bad leaders...yuekit
    • How do you sympathize and discuss anything serious with someone who says Biden and Kamala are communists who are selling the country to China?monospaced
    • I wonder if you would be willing to make the same argument if we were talking about another country. Like say Putin finally steps down in Russia, replaced by ayuekit
    • moderate, more democratic leader. Or Erdogan, Maduro, take your pick... Well guys, it's just one asshole replacing another asshole!yuekit
    • I'm not talking about the leadership Yuekit. I'm talking about a populace that is so arrogant or ignorant that they are willing to ignore a fucked up system...Morning_star
    • ...to argue and fight with their fellow country men. Those in power, whoever they are, are laughing at their citizens as they fight amongst themselves.Morning_star
    • No one's ignoring a fucked up system. The guy who just left was another problem on top of all that, so it's a great thing he's gone.yuekit
    • The system still exists, no?Morning_star
    • Nobody is ignoring anything.monospaced
    • Bipartisanship, reaching out to the other side is actually a constant theme of US politics. I think Biden might have ran more ads from Republicans endorsing himyuekit
    • than Democrats lol. Trump represented the opposite approach of total scorched earth partisanship.yuekit
    • I am struggling to draw a line between insulting the other side and how that has any bearing on the existence of the system. They aren't even related.monospaced
    • In terms of "the system"...of course there are a lot of structural problems in US society but I think you have to be realistic. The pandemic is an urgent crisisyuekit
    • that needs to be addressed. Climate change is an even more serious crisis for the entire world. If Republicans want to work together to solve these thingsyuekit
    • in a serious, science-based way there isn't a single person on the left or center-left who wouldn't welcome that.yuekit
    • @yeukit. The system is what gave you the Orange Toddler for 4 yrs, it's what allows corporations to dictate law, it's what keeps folk in the gutter, it's what..Morning_star
    • American citizens can dismantle their entire political system as easily as they can in your country. Until you fix that mess, you should'nt really criticize.monospaced
    • ...allows you politicians to get fat and lethargic with huge bribes. Do you not see how the governmental system is where the problems start. Fix it first, it..Morning_star
    • ...easier to tackle healthcare, climate etc Don't rely on bought and paid for politicians to come to your aid, they won't, they value the status quo too much.Morning_star
    • @mono can you not see that pitching two polarised sides against each other is distracting and retains the status quo.Morning_star
    • I understand what you're saying, but once again, it's not the average voters that are to blame. Tell me how you changed the status quo in your nation first. Txmonospaced
    • In the meantime, ridiculing the bigoted, mouthbreathing, ignorant fucks who voted for and continue to support Trump is totally fair and unrelated.monospaced
    • @mono also, an outside perspective is often the most useful. Yes, the UK system has it's problems but they're nothing like the ones you have.Morning_star
    • From an outside perspective, and with all due respect, I wholeheartedly disagree on that point. Additionally, we just voted out the biggest problem. :)monospaced
    • After spending a lot of time in the developing world, of course the USA has problems but it's still incredibly privileged compared to 90% of humanity.yuekit
    • I have friends and family who don't get to live under a democracy, who don't have any hope of getting even basic welfare or support from their government.yuekit
    • @yuekit Are you're happy to put up with the likes of Trump?Morning_star
    • @mono. With respect, i disagree. You still have a broken system that gave you Trump. What's to stop an even worse candidate running your country in 4yrs. Also,Morning_star
    • ...Biden ain't all that.Morning_star
    • Dude, you're STILL implying that voters did something wrong by voting? We don't have the control to kill the system, just like you don't. Derp.monospaced
    • You're blaming voters for not overthrowing the system? You have the same broken system that gave you a shitty leader. Do something about it first. We'll follow.monospaced
    • Morning_star I think the reasons for Trump becoming president are actually a bit different from what you might be assuming.yuekit
    • @uekit. I think Trump was voted in because a majority of the country was fucked off with Clinton/Bush dynasties and he didn't act/sound like the politicians...Morning_star
    • ...they didn't trust. He also promised them a new America.Morning_star
    • @mono Your system has given you the choice of two flawed geriatrics and claims that these are the best men to run the most powerful country in the world...Morning_star
    • ...Does that not give you a motive to try and do something?Morning_star
    • Biden and Trump are simply the result of people voting in primaries. Biden isn't my first choice or my 100th choice, but that's what Americans voted for.yuekit
    • The candidates that online people favored such as Andrew Yang and Tulsi Gabbard for instance, got almost no votes. So is that the system's fault or simplyyuekit
    • people having a different opinion from you? If what you said about reaching out and understanding other citizens holds true, shouldn't we respect their choice?yuekit
    • Fair enough, but there is little to no respect around here for anyone even slightly right of centre. As for 'choice', that is entirely dependent on how...Morning_star
    • ...deep the candidates pockets are.Morning_star
    • I'm sure there are many conservative leaders in other countries I'd be totally fine with. But sorry, as a second generation immigrant I just can't get on boardyuekit
    • with a party that has all this nationalist/anti-imm... rhetoric. Not to mention anti-science, anti-globalization, etc.yuekit
    • And is now effectively a personality cult organized around a TV celebrity. It's not as if it's a very high bar we're setting here lolyuekit
    • When i was younger Conservative was not a dirty word that conjured images of closed borders and echos of National Socialism. Until the distance between right..Morning_star
    • ..and left is bridged I fear for the future of the US.Morning_star
