I'm willing to bet that the average person and in particular those who were involved in the insurrection at the Capitol can't think too far ahead in time and really only look as far as the end of the day they're in, but it's frightening to realize what the assault on the Capitol reveals about operational weaknesses and vulnerabilities. We're only starting to find out what was stolen and destroyed, and what some of the intentions were of those involved. It's sounding like within the mob of people there were legit mercenaries with clear intentions to take hostages and perhaps even kill people like Pence, Pelosi, Schumer, and anyone else they felt was in the way of overthrowing the election.
While we recover from this, other hostile nations are no doubt rabidly enthusiastic at what they saw, at the vulnerabilities both in building security and within law enforcement - many of them sympathetic to the mob - and it frightens me to think about what a better-trained group could have done mixed in with the mob. What a tactically trained group of former soldiers could have pulled off. Don't for a second think that's science-fiction or an outrageous delusion. It's like a mouse trying to find a way into a house... they search and search and poke and prod until they find the vulnerability, often left exposed with no knowledge to the homeowner, and then more come, more find it, and so on. That's what I fear happening here.
I realize the average American psyche only looks as far as what's for dinner that night or what they're going to watch on TV, but unless we all start to realize what's at stake here long term, we're going to be in for a world of hurt.

DoJ warns national secrets may have been stolen after mob ransacked offices filled with dossiers and laptops as DC cop claims off-duty personnel were among rioters and 'flashed ID badges' at on-duty colleagues- The dopey cunts had been planning it for weeks, talking about it everywhere, even the woman shot in the throat had been looking forward to it.PhanLo
- And Trump wants to act like it wasn't being planned. God help us if some legitimately skilled, armed people attempt something more ambitious.mg33
- Fox News new narrative "It was Antifa".utopian
- They'll have another go in a couple of weeks, so let's see what happens.PhanLo
- It's weird how folk keep saying 'I didn't see that they were organised christian fascists, I just thought they were really dumb people with beards' each time.PhanLo
- Patriot Act 2.0, this time it will be internal. Careful what you wish for. Quickly going from "reduce the power of policing and incarceration", too overdrive.IRNlun6
- The US isn't exactly known for doling out justice fairly or righteously.IRNlun6
- lol...you do realize the Patriot Act is a domestic law that already applies to US citizens right?yuekit
- And if you want to give Congress an excuse for pushing through harsher laws, it's hard to think of a better way than attacking the building they work in.yuekit
- Patriot Act wasn't a law meant target to American citizens, but it certainly was used for that, and never ended.IRNlun6
- The incoming Biden administration is already promising new domestic terror laws. Granting the federal government massive new powers.IRNlun6
- People excited about that now because they're targeting y'all qaida. Even after a summer of riots over the lawlessness from law enforcement...IRNlun6
- yeah, America is fucked.IRNlun6
- FFS...can you not see that so much of this insanity is caused by misinformation.yuekit
- The people charging into the capitol building did it because they thought the election was stolen. And that Donald Trump (it feels ridiculous even typing this)yuekit
- is in some kind of battle with the deep state or new world order or whatever. It's all completely made up.yuekit
- And no the Biden admin is not talking about "granting the federal government massive new powers."yuekit
- How can I not see? How do you expect people that have been called nazis, racists, supporting a Russian spy, de-platformed from social media, fired from jobs...IRNlun6
- physically attacked, watching business burn down, pushed out of work from covid, etc.. you think they're just going to accept the election results?IRNlun6
- They fucked up the other day thinking they could do the same as Antifa and BLM. They were wrong.IRNlun6
- And you're wrong if you think the animosity towards them won't result in government push back now that the Dems control all branches of government.IRNlun6
- I don't what to say if you don't think lobbyists, military industrial complex, China, oligarchs, media, tech platforms, have an unfathomable amount of power.IRNlun6
- The feeling of being victimized is not an excuse for not accepting the election results. I could just as easily say that we've had to put up with this totalyuekit
- idiot being President for the past four years, who was incredibly racist towards people like myself and other minorities and whose negligent actions causedyuekit
- hundreds of thousands of Americans to die...and therefore I demand we get 100% of the seats in Congress. This is not how it works lol. At the end of the dayyuekit
- either you won or you didn't and as it happens, you didn't. The result was not perfect for our side either, but we accept it and move on.yuekit
- The way you immediately pivot into "whatabout the other side" is exactly what I see from all these Trump people online. No one takes responsibility anymore.yuekit
- Not saying they're justified. They're 100% in the wrong, and the president's rhetoric most definitely contributed to that.IRNlun6
- There are always two sides and people are free to question the results of the election. That is not unique to either side and...IRNlun6
- I'd argue it's more a fault of the current system. Both sides at one point have to live under leadership they hate, but whats the alternative?IRNlun6
- And I agree, no one takes responsibility anymore.IRNlun6
