I've been thinking a lot about the repetitive headline of "2020: worst year, ever". It is like a hashtag. I perceive that it has become a patch cord, a catchphrase, and that it is not analyzed as deeply as it should be.
Besides thinking about my grandpas and great-grandparents -not to go any further-, and the atrocities they must have had to face in the late 1800s and early 1900s, I have focused on myself and what I have lived through in my almost 40 years of life rather than the pandemic and shit.
By no means is 2020 the worst year I've had to go through. I painfully remember much darker and more difficult years, again, personally and selfishly. I have faced depression, addictions, underfunding, unhealthy relationships ... I'm sorry but personally, 2020 is not nearly the worst year I have had to tolerate.
- And still way better than any year anyone has spent in a war, famine, or refugee camp.nb
- Worst...sure it's subjective. Weirdest/craziest year in modern times I would agree with though, nothing like this has ever happened in history.yuekit
- It’s an easy year to hate; talking about COVID is the new talking about the weather. Worse years personally? Sure. BUT globally not in some time...ideaist

- Countless hours with my son, and we have all managed to avoid Covid.lemmy_k
- Right? It’s been quite a weird year anyways. I feel like I’m in August more than mid Dec. Covid made calendars go berzerk.maquito
