A New York perspective – from the way things are here I don't think there will be a singular 'moment' of going back to normal. Mask wearing is so ingrained now that it's weird to see folks walking around outside without them and by the time vaccines are rolling out to a place where young and healthy people are getting it, we will be deep into '21.

I think it will be a slow tapering off, and there will be moments where we'll look around and say – "wow, it's nice to see everyone without masks for a change' or 'so nice to see this place busy again' when in a bar or restaurant (at more than 25% capacity).

And thats what sucks about it all. There's no release of the pressure and anxiety. We've just adapted to a shitty norm and then will de-adapt until the TIME cover in 2023 when they say that COVID has finally been defeated.

    AND, it's fucking Monday.

    • Could be worse.nb

    • and we still take our fucking shoes off at the airport 20 years later, new norm indeedmonospaced
    • It's great that the vaccine is rolling out though!DaveO
    • Yes, of course. But there has been so much trauma, as you pointed out, that people will wear masks for a long time while this exists.monospaced
    • There are many many millions of people who don't trust the vaccine, and also don't trust the science behind masks. So COVID is gonna linger like a motherfuckmonospaced
    • I was in a meeting today and forgot to take my mask off when walking outside then i saw one dude not wearing one and realized i should take mine off...pr2
    • ...that's how mask NOT wearing is ingrained in my mind.pr2
