    microkorg,

I was thinking about that last week watching an old M83 concert on YT with my daughter. Their set was so full of energy and happiness, so it got me thinking about the collective jubilation we might experience when the world is normal again. In our lifetime we've never had a shift like that. It's going to be weird but we're going to feel like we won WW2 in some ways, really just meaning that the worst is behind us and we persevered, as long as we acknowledge and grieve the lives lost.

I'm not much for festivals anymore, but I try to picture the energy, the experience, of a huge crowd responding to music - especially music born out of this crisis. I think there will be a huge swell of new music and positivity as a reaction to this pandemic that is going to be really fun to witness. Like a little renaissance period as people can be physically safe around each other, attend events, etc. I know it's not any time soon... hell, I'm willing to bet that festivals don't return to what we're used to until 2022 given that we've got a long way to go even with vaccines in 2021.

But it's cool to have optimism. As a music maker myself, winter time is when I'm most productive, and most of my music has always been darker / moodier / sleepier. There's been something enjoyable about working on small ideas that feel more uplifting and reflective. Whether that's a reaction to this pandemic or not, I'm not totally sure. I'm never going to write a pop song and I'm never going to make music people dance to with a smile on their face. Maybe what I try to make is more meditative and self-reflective background music than anything else, but it's been interesting to have a different perspective on it.

    • I can't stand big festivals either, im talking a few hundred or thousand folk illegally on land they dont own having a party and the police just letting them..microkorg
    • ...crack on with it as long as nothing gets out of hand.microkorg
