My dad didn’t show much interest in my career but he knew I would be okay I guess. He covered college — and I’m eternally grateful — but help stopped there. He said you’re on your own to pursue education and a career in design. So I did.

I feel like only in the last few years does he finally see and respect my work. Now that I have a family and house I can tell he is actually proud. It’s just weird because now I’m 40 and his approval isn’t really as important to me as it would have been 20 years ago. Here’s to 20 more years where we can become closer. Cheers dad!

    • I also lost a relationship because I pursued design. She didn’t believe I would be successful enough. Now I am and I wish she could see me now.monospaced
    • My dad was the same, save for covering any of my education. They come around when it’s tangible for them, I really hope I’m not like him in that regard though.ben_
