    AAAUGH.

That was the most stressful 6 hours of work I've had in a LONG time.

Most of the stuff I do - if I fuck up, I can spend five minutes swearing at my incompetency, then stick some new material in and start again. I might lose some money and time, but whatever.

Jobs like the one I've just completed however, are the opposite - I have a set number of units - and, if I'm lucky, a spare or two - and I then have to get every one absolutely right.

Trick with this job was that there were some curveballs thrown in that I couldn't account for (someone else made the things I'm working on), and designs changed on the fly which in a way simplifed things, in a way made things more stressful.

The last two things that I did were particularly precarious, so I checked my assumptions, checked again, then went for it. Of course, the substance of the thing I was working on was different from the test medium. I'm guessing the guy who was in control of that bit got his message the wrong way around, so did the exact opposite of what I asked for in order 'to make it safe'. it did the opposite.

I was able to cludge a fix, but fucking hell.

Days like this make me think I'm not going to make it to 50.

    • ..except for that time I polluted test content on a Wordpress site, uploaded and published a load of expletives because I forgot to turn off RSS updates.Nairn
    • *uploaded to what was supposed to be a hidden test server. Not live.Nairn
    • In other related news: haven't used Ai in like a month...slowly need to get back to serious work.

    • related because I worked with a small startup a few years back that bought a "laser machine" and I was supposed to create stuff in Ai for them to laser cut
      ********
    • I remember all the graphics needed to be very well prepared, no extra points, continuous lines etc. very small margin of error with laser cutting

    • the 'removing extra points' thing you mention is interesting to me. I get the logic. Personally, I tend to add in points.Nairn
