    Potentially, yes. Not likely. I hope.

    The harm to the EU from Brexit was a known-known pre-referendum and I assume our political masters here in the UK were well aware that they actually do hold some pretty strong cards, despite the incessant bleating of the liberal press. My problem with this is at what cost to good relations? It might end up a a bit of a Pyrrhic victory.

    Brexit was a shock to the peoples of the EU (perhaps not the political classes) and quieted a lot of the doubters outside of the UK, but people tend to forget that countries such as France and Italy do have significant percentages of people who teeter-totter on their own exit ambitions, so if the wrong sort of fates align the EU might be in a much weaker position than we'd like to believe.

    it's all so stupid. Clearly we're stronger together and clearly the future multi-polar world is one in which we have the potential for greater struggle against more powerful contestants.
