I would say that designer is not quite up to illustrator (at least for the way i work) and I find myself having to go back to illustrator for some jobs, tho less and less as i find ways to work around issues.
publisher is quite as good as quirk and indesign and all i need. ditto photo.
obvs you need to allow some time to get used to the new way of working as they are similar yet different and it takes time to readjust to new key commands etc
