Americans in vast numbers actually prefer to watch and rewatch and rewatch the US version of The Office over the original british version.
If you think about what these two shows do differently — the overarching themes, messages and symbols — it goes a long way to help understand the American workforce, the American economy, the American dream, and why half the country is so depressed all the time.
- Odd ya don't mention comedy style at all, might just be that Americans prefer Steve Carell's delivery, I know I do while still loving Rickywhatthefunk
- Of course but it’s a lot more than comedic timing and familiar accents.********
- also more to do with only 12 episodes of uk version compared to 200 of US, far more content and longer plot lines and arcs to followwhatthefunk
- Exactly. Americans prefer the drawn out monotony that never ends. It’s how they live their lives.********
- The UK has long since cornered the market on long drawn out depressing monotony, I'd argue.whatthefunk
- The UK version is about how there's more to life than your dead-end job. The US Office teaches that your dead-end job is your life, so embrace it.********
- Given the choice, Americans choose the US version... and to define themselves by their dead-end jobs.********
