So we decided to add a puppy to our house of 3 cats and 2 kids. Meet Timburr (pokemon name because, yea our kids love pokemon)... He's a 10 week old Boykin Spaniel. Great dog, but challenges of being so nippy and we're working on it, but he also obsessively eats grass and plants in backyard and we have no idea how to get him to stop. I've not had a dog in 35+ years.

- Human eyes! My brother got a potcake pup recently and the thing's teeth are like needles.ben_
- Puppies chew. Most outgrow it. Try lots of toys. Our German Shepard likes the Kong stuff. Always has one with him.lemmy_k
- spaniels are really fucking smart but once you shout at them enough for a bad behaviour one day you'll just realise they don't do it any more...kingsteven
- so you kinda just have to give them the space to get in to trouble so they can learn themselves. better in the long run... so many dog owners i know have passedkingsteven
- their own social awkwardness on to their dogs by not giving them that freedom and now the dogs aren't socialised and have to be kept on leads.kingsteven
- what lemmy said about toys is spot on. like 2 in every room... when they steal socks etc say "bad dog" once you get it back "good dog" and then give them a toy.kingsteven
