Regarding grafician's post.
Is there life floating in the clouds of Venus?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/scien…- so damn cool_niko
- So Nasa's planning on sending a mission in 2030 to float some baloons in the atmosphere but the crazy thing is, the Russians already did it in 1985!_niko
- Amazing what we acheived when there was an arms race in science, space and discovery, when politicians didn't exist for their own ego and to pander to the dregs_niko
- I guess in times of relative peace, stability and prosperity demagoguery and tyranny is inevitable._niko
- So what has the Russian's learned about Venus? They have had a 35 years head start.utopian
- Venus is a much likelier place for use to set up a base on than Mars is - the DeltaV to get there is lower and there's an atmosphere we can refineNairn
- ..it just wouldn't be on the surface is all. Or, at least, not for long.Nairn
- Well, not 'much likelier'. I've just always thought the idea cool since realising the Russians dropped balloons there, as _niko mentioned.Nairn
- Thinking about it (I just went for a walk) - if there is a stronger possibility of life on Venus, that would go a LONG way to shifting budget priorities.Nairn
- Not really, Venus is a hell hole save for a narrow strip of atmosphere. Some moistened bacteria won’t be enough reason to shift strategyGnash
- You don't? So why do we spend so many billions trying to find life on Mars? Venus would be a cheaper mission.Nairn
- I can imagine a not-too distant entirely private funded expedition if a Chemical or Bio-Tech Company felt it migyt be worth the investment.Nairn
- Bio-tech company collecting alien life-forms... what could go wrong? ;)Gnash
