    My mother suffers from panic attacks (and other nervous problems)... she pumps her body full of drugs, but i don't really agree with that.

    I used to get the occasional attack a few years ago (after a couple of deaths in the family), so my doctor taught me how to breath properly. You may look ghey, but it's better than thinking you're about to die. It's a form of yoga breathing called Pranayama. (i'll have a look for a link)
