I'm in Italy and was at the beach this afternoon and wanting something a bit more than a coke to drink but not really wanting to start on booze proper, I spied a bottle of Fernet behind the counter on the beach bar. I think 'Aha!' and waste no time ordering a Fernet and Coke and ignore the perplexed look of the bartend. I know what I asked for was correct, don't give me that look. I get back to the lounger to surprise that I've just gone with a coke. I go 'nuh-uh' and explain what I ordered. The same perplexed look. I take a sip and.... Jesus. What have I done?
