Some great analysis of The Last of Us 2 from somewhat different perspectives. WARNING: Very spoiler-heavy!
Personally I really enjoyed the game as an 'experience'. I enjoy games these days as an escape and this provided just that. I did feel like their stance of various social issues and themes of the story were a bit too heavy handed - telling the player what they should accept and how to feel, and to buy into the main characters' actions as we're forced to commit acts that we don't necessarily agree with. However, this is exactly how the first game was for me with its ending and so it helped me stomach the entirety of the sequel more easily. I guess some games are pure fan service, but Naughty Dog has written a big that has been adapted as a video game where your biggest decisions are the most minor to the plot. It's a weird feeling for a medium that has really only been one way for so long, but I guess I'm ok with it. Now the long wait for Cyberpunk 2077..
