I should know better than to get into discussions with some of my wife's family online, but holy shit, some of them on Facebook are literally saying the Russia / Taliban story is fake simply because someone shared it via an MSNBC link. Like, they can't even take the simple leap forward to understanding that renowned investigative groups at The Guardian, NYT, and Washington Post broke this story. Like, it doesn't even compute to them.
I watch these people and it's proof positive of how decades of Republican assault on the quality of education in this country has created people who have zero ability to think for themselves and employ even basic critical thinking skills to parse fact from fiction. It's as hilarious as it is sad.
I've asked myself so many times, what's worse: not knowing you're being lied to, or knowing and not caring. I'll never have an answer.
