At the opening dinner of the Osaka G-20 meeting in June 2019, with only interpreters present, Xi had explained to Trump why he was basically building concentration camps in Xinjiang.

According to our interpreter, Trump said that Xi should go ahead with building the camps, which Trump thought was exactly the right thing to do.

The National Security Council’s top Asia staffer, Matthew Pottinger, told me that Trump said something very similar during his November 2017 trip to China.

Trump was particularly dyspeptic about Taiwan, having listened to Wall Street financiers who had gotten rich off mainland China investments.

One of Trump’s favorite comparisons was to point to the tip of one of his Sharpies and say, “This is Taiwan,” then point to the historic Resolute desk in the Oval Office and say, “This is China.” So much for American commitments and obligations to another democratic ally.

    • Trump knows how to be a lil' bitch. It comes natural to him.nb
    • Yup, China sucksGnash
    • he a lil bitch is right.pango
    • lol some people not too happy about this storyyuekit
    • The 'anti-Chyna' crowd thought Trump was their guy, but of course he will inevitably screw over and humiliate anyone dumb enough to support himyuekit
    • Nice try, trump’s a fucking moron, but you can’t hide China’s horror behind trumps idiocy.Gnash
    • So you support genocide, got it. But orange man bad! Amiright, bro!Gnash
    • Lol. China is a fucking shit-show that is exponentially worse than the USA in every fucking metric. But you do youGnash
    • Wow you've lost it Gnash...I support genocide? haha WTFyuekit
    • ya... you're not making sense now gnash. just check couple posts up.pango
    • Ya, isn’t it odd when peeps jump to conclusions? Perhaps you should reflect on thatGnash
    • Thanks for making my point for meGnash
    • I have to say, the orange man bad thing is the silliest talking point I've ever heard. Trump genuinely is a terrible leader.yuekit
    • This is just more proof of that. The fact that his face is orange should be the first clue something is deeply wrong lol.yuekit
    • You say ‘anti-chyna’ like it’s just the feral musings of trumps brainless following. China is a legit shit-show and yet you prop up orange man as a shieldGnash
    • Lol at your lame ‘mic-drop’ logic, there. ‘Just more proof...’ ughGnash
    • If you think Trump is a moron and his followers are brainless, why does this post bother you so much in the first place?yuekit
    • Listen not sure why I need to explain myself but just for the record, I am a Hong Konger/ American. I was IN the anti-China protests in HK last year, somethingyuekit
    • I doubt anyone else posting in this thread can say.yuekit
    • I also happen to think there is a strain of anti-China sentiment over the past year, mostly coming from Western right wingers who never stepped foot in thatyuekit
    • part of the world, that often verges on racism and conspiracies theories. For instance, the idea that China was covering up millions of deaths from the virus, yuekit
    • which some people posted in this thread, struck me as implausible and I think it's safe to say at this point that it was simply not true.yuekit
    • For that crowd (which includes people in HK BTW) Trump is often their hero, and I always thought that was a mistake.yuekit
    • He clearly does not give a single fuck about Hong Kong and Taiwan, and now we have proof of it.yuekit
    • racism is yet another shield used to deflect criticism from the Chinese regime. Of course there are racists - and there’s no lack of them in china, btw...Gnash
    • And I can’t blame the hk’rs for putting more faith in trump than in china - can you? Despite trumps duplicity, it’s better than that shit-show China is offeringGnash
    • Cmon Gnash are you really that single minded? Not everything is a "shield."yuekit
    • And it is not a binary choice between the Communist Party and Donald Trump lol.yuekit
    • I never said it was binary, just that pretty much anything is better than what China is offering. Even trump. And it is a shield when you use it like oneGnash
    • Let me put it this way, there are many different currents within the HK protest movement. Left, right, liberal, and some who embraced people like Trumpyuekit
    • and Steve Bannon. I always thought that was a mistake given that Trump is such a divisive figure and doesn't care about HK anyway.yuekit
    • Fortunately I'm noticing a lot of people realizing that, now that this story is out there.yuekit
    • OMG Gnash you just lost the plot completely.Khurram
