looking at replacing the fried macbook, i found a refurbed 16" for £2k on the apple website.

but it's only got usb-c sockets so i need a lot of adapters to connect with all my other (old) kit. i need a firewire 800, hdmi, and two old usb slots. apple have the adapters - for £172!

while i was digging thru the site looking for all these connectors the 16" refurb got snaffled by someone else, which is probably just as well.

perhaps i need to revert to plan b, and get an older 2015 macbook which has most of the ports i need already. and is cheaper. tho will probably overheat again.

    :/

    • You can find multi adapters or affordable usb c transition cables on Amazon. Usb c is actually good as a standard moving forward.monospaced
    • Its hard to find legacy usb on any high end laptops these days. I don’t think anyone has had FireWire in years.monospaced
    • I never had a device with USB-C in my life, let alone used one.raf
    • You will.monospaced
    • All phones besides iPhones are on C pretty much and have been for years. Most new peripherals and accessories are. All new laptops are exclusive too.monospaced
    • Right now the only device I have that isn’t usb c is my iPhone and it feels weird.monospaced
    • apparently it's important to have the power cable one side and hub cable the other to stop overheating?hans_glib
    • Why on Earth would you — of all people! :) — buy such peripheral adapters from Apple?Nairn
