Spain, Italy, France and Germany seem to have flattened the curve. Let's hope no second wave and herd immunity is next.

    • A study just released in Spain suggests around 5% of the population has antibodies, although varies greatly by region. That's a long way from herd immunity.yuekit
    • how was this "study" conducted?Krassy
    • was 100% of the population tested for antibodies and 5% have it? or was 6% of the population tested and 5% of those have it? ;-)Krassy
    • I'm sure it was more like the second scenario...you can read about it hereyuekit

    • We did a test here for 1000 random people, just around 2% have antibodies. We just stayed all in house...

    • herd immunity will take years :/
      ********
    • A lot of experts seem to think 70-90% required for herd immunity although this is debated.yuekit
    • But if you take those numbers at face value Spain would have to go through the same epidemic/deaths 13-17 more times to get to immunity.yuekit
    • no country will reach herd immunity, a vaccine will come before that (my opinion)Bennn
    • @grafician did you, personally, get tested?Krassy
    • Maybe before the vaccine, they will get so good treating it that the death rate goes down drastically.yuekit
    • Herd immunity can’t happen until people start to herd together, againGnash
    • @Krassy nope, it was just in the news, we're coming out of lockdown tomorrow and going into "Alert state" on Monday I think...
      ********
    • we're also opening barbershops, museums, no big gatherings tho' and limited travel between cities, but we can go anywhere in the city. 245 new cases...
      ********
    • in Spain the past 3 days the amount of deaths have been increasing again, not at an alarming rate but evidently due to the effect of relaxing the lockdownernexbcn
    • we are allowed to go out for walks, exercise now and I did it just once and people just simply don't give a fuck, they don't avoid getting closeernexbcn
    • I found it way too stressing going out and paying attention to who is coming close fuck this I will take a walk at midnighternexbcn
    • Any increase recently can't be due to a change in behaviour three days ago, no?Nairn
    • yes Ernesto, here in the Basque Country we're doing it with a bit more of discipline, but now and then, you can see some groups who still don't give a fuck...OBBTKN
    • And again... the politicians are giving a sad show, i n c r e d i b l eOBBTKN
    • I suspect it's better overall for people to be able to go outside in the sun *and still maintain social distancing* rather than couped up at home for weeksNairn
    • The sad fact is, we should probably have everyone 55 and under out and about, and everyone over that incarcerated for the next year. Can't do that though.Nairn
    • *fact = not fact; opinion of mine.

      haha.
      Nairn
    • Not to get all Trump, but I think most people seriously underestimate the mountain of fuck that we're facing economically.Nairn
    • Which is to say, I'd suggest there's a good reason to push for expansion of social and economic freedoms so that we push the herd immunity % up.Nairn
    • My neighbour here in Madrid was tested, I wasn't though. We both had the virus.Chimp
    • In Spain most people can only go out from 8pm which causes a mad rush. The parks in Madrid were also closed until recently.Chimp
    • @Chimp hope you're well? is your immune system fighting it?Krassy
    • @ernex, aunque en un escenario muy diferente, percibo una similar actitud en el gobierno de Uruguay. Me molesta MUCHO. Más aún pudiendo ver cifras de otros paísmaquito
    • There is no such thing as herd immunity. This bug is a total question mark. It’s almost as if it’s goal is that everyone catches itmaquito
    • If there's anything less than 100% mortality rate and antibodies stay for any amount of time, then there can be herd immunity. To what degree, is a diff. quest.Nairn
    • At the moment it's looking like antibodies linger around for at least 3 months (which is all we can really tell at this stage, given the timeline)Nairn
