Regarding that UE 5 demo, it seems they figured out a way to import film quality assets into the scene adding up to "billions of triangles" and end up doing an approximation of that by the engine of dozens of millions of triangles, saving artists from doing lower LOD models of those assets manually or even resorting to fake geometry with normal maps as it is currently being done to stay in the desired FPS budget. The global illumination tech is also cool, no need to bake shadows etc anymore, and this isn't even using ray tracing.

    • I'm curious about the iOS version. Would love to see what the iPad Pro can do with it and what kind of games we can see done with it.NBQ00
    • I think the demo is also leveraging heavily the SSD of the PS5, it reads at 5.5 GB/s but if it's a kraken stream (a compressed format by rad that grows to 8-9 sernexbcn
    • they added custom silicon to decompress that format on the fly, they say a ryzen cpu would need 9 cores just to decompress that stream at the same rateernexbcn
    • For me it's all about global illumination. Have been waiting for this in games for yearsss. It is one of the main factors that turns a 3D render into realism.inteliboy
