It's crazy how iPhone performance suffers the closer it gets to the storage being full. I have the 256GB 11Pro and was right around 248GB used.

Started getting rid of various things that were clogging it up, got down to 180GB and the phone is suddenly fast again.

Why is this? It has memory, and that's not the same thing as storage, so why does performance suffer as the phone gets full?

    • background app refresh?ok_not_ok
    • No 100% sure why, but this happens on all computers when storage gets near maximum.monospaced
    • Yeah, definitely experienced that on computers in the past, just surprised something like the iPhone suffers from that.mg33
    • It's called innovation, look it up!utopian
    • Why? Because there is an Android alternative.helloeatbreathedrive
    • No matter how much RAM you have there is a memory "scratch" on your storage. True for iOS too. Speed varies with use, software, etc.evilpeacock
    • Phones don't have a ton of RAM anyway.monospaced
    • Considering that phones are multi-core and working with 2-4 gigs of RAM only, it's highly likely there is lots of "disk swapping" going on with normal use.evilpeacock
