I think China is playing as cool as they can on many geopolitical levels until the day they know they have so much power they can do anything without any fear.

    • Cool? They squawk and squeal every time someone outs their bullshit. Power? Their waters are surrounded by US allies. The West has a China Containment Policy.BustySaintClaire
    • Still. They're spreading their tentacles everywhere and gaining economical power every year. When you have the money, you have everything.Bennn
    • Starting with, they make almost all the things we need/buy ... "attack us and say bye bye to [list of infinite items]"Bennn
    • This is just how the economy works. I didn’t see it as an evil plot.Gnash
    • Don’t *Gnash
    • Maybe not. We will see what they do with all that power in a few yearsBennn
    • They‘ll just expand their economy as much as they can, like every other nation has, until they hit resistance of some sortGnash
    • Obviously, the fact that they’re a highly xenophobic, genocidal, authoritarian state may inform their intentions a wee bit.Gnash

    • In contrast, the USA just pretends that they’re out there saving the world. Both have similar goals. Opposite side of the same coinGnash
    • One critical difference IMO is that it's much easier for the USA to culturally influence the rest of the world than it is for China.yuekit
    • Much of the world speaks English, hardly anyone speaks Mandarin outside of China. And there is a big culture barrier beyond that.yuekit
    • If you look historically, China during various dynasties did dominate parts of Asia. But it never dominated far flung parts of the world like the USA or Britainyuekit
