Fauci says coronavirus tests need to double before lockdowns are lifted
Dr. Anthony Fauci has warned that coronavirus testing needs to at least double before lockdowns are lifted — even as some states have already started re-opening parts of their economies.
The US currently gets through about 1.5 million to 2 million tests a week, which America’s top infectious disease expert says is still nowhere near enough to get a safer grip on the contagion’s spread.
“We probably should get up to twice that as we get into the next several weeks, and I think we will,” Fauci told the National Academy of Sciences annual meeting, according to Politico.
The White House coronavirus task force member said that adequate testing should “get those who are infected out of society so that they don’t infect others,” according to the report.
