I strapped on a mask and headed over to the Madison anti-gubmint protest on my bike. As I rode up, with groups of protesters (hardly any were masked) spilling out of the few open bars, I was treated to a stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, as if we were all there for a footbaw game. To get everybody feeling sufficiently righteous, a revivalist sermon followed. Seriously, it was designed to elicit Pavolvian responses, and my IQ dropped 70 points in under five minutes. I didn't stick around as it wasn't safe even with a mask.
A friend of mine from Ukraine tells me that Putin pays people to travel there and protest on street corners, and we all know about the DeVos family's financial involvement in the Tea Party development, so it wouldn't surprise me if the reason for the bigger numbers (a couple thousand, it looked like, and a lot of drivers honking in traffic) is that folks got $ to attend.
No masks, kids with signs...whether or not they were paid, they sure were stupid. Today this county had a new high in the number of new cases, so it doesn't bode well. As for reasoning with any of these people, given that this occurred the day after the orange savior suggested fighting the coronavirus by ingesting bleach, I think it's clear they're all in against science.
I'm a cancer patient, so I'm not happy to miss my every-six-month check-in, but I'm not an epidemiologist...so I'm happy to let the epidemiologists handle what's best for the population.
