Just a pair of paragraphs about my country.
I'm really proud of Uruguay's government. They decided not to declare a mandatory quarantine (as Argentina did), but drew upon a powerful exhortation and requested, repeatedly, deeply, a mindful message loaded with ethical values and trust in our people: "Please stay at home". The entire country collaborated and understood that what was happening was not a joke, and luckily health, values, culture and conscience were laid above greed, money and capitalism.
Many people lost their job, many more will lose it; This is not over. Government officials are concerned about education, economy, and obviously health. 9 people died (I know, sounds quite silly to mention). But the most important thing is that a healthy balance was achieved between the governors, the businessmen, the unions, the public employees, the young, the old, the president (elected Mar. 1st., God help him), the opposition (49%) and across all the different social class.
We have a population of 3M. I am more than clear that it is easier to control such a small population, but I also understand that every large city in each large country (many of which have even more inhabitants than the entire Uruguay), will face the result of HOW their governors managed that fragile balance between interests and priorities I was mentioning before.
- btw, the president is the first moderate right wing liberal elected in 15 years. The 3 preceding were progressive socialists, including famous "Pepe" Mujica.maquito
- Interesting. The USA no longer has any moderates on the right, sadly.allthethings
