    Apparently:

    "Virus is disrupting the hemoglobin’s oxygen capacity. It is attacking our BLOOD first, not the lungs. It is NOT a respiratory ailment (primarily), lung breakdown symptoms are a consequence of the attack on blood hemoglobins. Hypoxia is happening BEFORE lungs are affected."

    in other words "this paper suggests that the virus permanantly de-oxiginates blood, which later impacts lungs."
