"The big mistake in the U.S. and Europe, in my opinion, is that people aren’t wearing masks. This virus is transmitted by droplets and close contact. Droplets play a very important role—you’ve got to wear a mask, because when you speak, there are always droplets coming out of your mouth.

Many people have asymptomatic or presymptomatic infections. If they are wearing face masks, it can prevent droplets that carry the virus from escaping and infecting others."

Strange how this directly contradicts the advice of the U.S. government and WHO...but it seems they have now changed their official guidance.

    • At this point the front-line needs the supplies first and it's really-really hard to accomplish that in this scale.sted
    • I feel like the advice is misleading though...they told people it's not effective and only sick people should wear them.yuekit
    • Leaving out the fact that around half of all people with the virus don't show any symptoms at all but still spread the disease, through droplets.yuekit
    • if they cough
      if they touch sourfaces
      of if they touch others
that shite surgical mask keeps droplets in.
      sted
    • *surfacessted
    • It's not foolproof but if everyone or almost everyone wears them, it will have a big effect.yuekit
    • i'm all in to that it will.
its the supply chain from raw materials, to the logistics with high level qc what needs to cope with this insane worldwide demand
      sted
    • while the rest of the world is locked up and needs to stay calm and sane.sted
    • No masks anywhere to buy.monospaced
    • mask would help i am with you, but if they are rare, the hospital needs it first. countries shuld have more on stock.api
    • You know what we need? TESTS. The majority of the population having no idea if they have it or not is insane.inteliboy
    • If they say masks work and we all need to wear them, what you think happens? The entire supply is bought up, gone. Doctors, hospitals unable to get any.shapesalad
    • And that would be in addition to the current situation were they don’t have any....shapesalad
    • Not knowing is not the problem. Only go to get a test she you’re super sick. That’s the right thing to do. Getting a test just to make sure is a waste of a testmonospaced
    • If there is a shortage of masks that's a separate problem. It's not an excuse to mislead people about what works.yuekit
    • Also the shortage of masks and other supplies is an issue that governments should be urgently addressing. Why just throw up your hands about it?yuekit
    • Masks are only a big deal in highly populated Central areas.... Like NYC... Most of us is different than hang other nationsdeathboy
    • Not super reliant on public transport is a big one too. It seems public transport is numero uno spreaderdeathboy
    • Should heavy density pops with large public transportation promote use of masks. For sure.deathboy
    • I can’t wear anything that I don’t have. I could build a mask from a tissue, but is anyone of you doing it?SimonFFM
    • yeah you can wear anything...cowboy style.uan
    • multiple layers of cloth will protect you. but will also stick in the fabrics (as in the masks), so you need to clean it, change it regularly.uan
    • but it gives you a suplemental layer of protection wich can help getting the fear in check.uan
