If it were the other way around: if the Democrats were trying to pass an emergency stimulus package and the Republicans were blocking it to negotiate part of their platform... we would all be screaming that the Republicans are letting people die for political reasons.
I'm not trying to defend Republicans, just thought I would point out this excellent example of how these political parties are just two sides of the same coin.
